Sandra Castillo in CasaAve

The sommelier, graduated from the Argentine School of Sommeliers, and member of the board of Directors of the AAS (Argentine Association of Sommelier) came to Mendoza accompanied by someone, and of course she came by to Casa Ave. In a very characteristic meeting, a picnic organized by Iacopo Di Bugno, one of Ave Wines engines; we could talk to her about the impressions that cause our winery.

What did you think about Ave wines?
I think Ave wines are very special, different, with a light and delicate character, regarding the terroir ad origin.

What do you think about the Project and its founders?
I think is a Project made with passion and founded on very good grounds, and with a lot of projection, together with professional people and with a lot of ideas.

Did you like Casa Ave?
The house was wonderful. Also, I think it´s very important the recovery of the original materials, which are very well combined with trendy touches, I think they contribute with a special touch. The park, the view, the sunset…unforgettable. The visit was a tremendous experience matched by the best host.

Of all Ave wines, which one would you stand out, and why?
I really, really like Memento 2007, I think it´s a very special and complex wine, starting from the fact that is born in a unique vineyard, has the power of an important wine, behaves well with guard, and develops with elegance and complexity.

Rodrigo Calderón in Casa Ave

The sommelier of the glamorous UNIK and of La Burgogne in Punta del Este came to Mendoza, and of course came by to Casa Ave. Iacopo Di Bugno, one of the main engines of this enterprise, organized a very special picnic. Don`t miss the impressions of this great sommelier.

“Ave wines stand out from the rest from several points of view”, Rodrigo started to talk, while he perfectly elaborated his answer. “Price-quality relationship is present in all their lines, as well as balanced elegance with fruit and character. Something very important is how easy these wines can be drunk and combined with different dishes… Ave Premium Malbec is one of the most versatile malbecs of Mendoza, even playing with the temperature; they can be adapted to fishes or meats” Calderòn ends.

Beyond wines, Ave is framed in a predetermined purpose. According to the sommelier, that now is in Punta del Este: “The project is noble, I think that the presence of Iacopo Di Bugno as a young, social and friendly figure is amazing, as well as the figure of Alberto Antonini. The enclave of the winery and the vineyard is another factor that stands out…I dear to say that the wines will have a high growth in the internal and external market in the upcoming years.

The picnic, organized by Iacopo, was made in Casa Ave´s gardens. “The house has a very high value regarding the antiquity of it…I like very much the way in which it was recycled: the floors, the galleries, the entry of light in the ceiling, the contrast to some vibrating colors in the walls. The cellar, which is very pretty and small, gives an air of family winery. Everything is taken care of, and in respect to the nature and the terroir of Perdriel” Rodrigo Calderòn tells us.

We can`t forget one of the most important stars of Ave Wines. “I highlight Memento (winery icon wine) due to the Natural Blend concept. Its elegance, rarity, vineyard and above all, its unique expression are the attributes that I highlight” Calderòn ends, after a long talk.

Slow down that you have little time

SlowKar is a company that rents vintage cars that will officially start to operate in Mendoza on February, 1st 2012. The head of this enterprise is Ramiro Marquesini, nothing more and nothing else than the President of Ave Wines. The initiative has a fleet of 5 cars Citroën 3CV restored into new with a Charleston style to travel the wine routs in Mendoza. “Starting from the passion for vintage cars we imagine a journey, enjoying the road in every stage, exactly in the opposite sense to the anxiety of arriving. Time and moment enjoyment. It is in this concept that the SlowKar genesis
is based on.”

To portrait the idea and synthesize the concept, what`s better than a picture? Together with Federico Garcìa and on the stages of Casa Ave an impeccable photo shoot was made. “We chose Ave for the photo shoot because it`s a ride for excellence. The perfection of its vineyards and the majestic setting of the mountain chain and the foothills. With the sunrise light…it was amazing”, Ave president and SlowKar manager talked about.

The name of the enterprise has a close relationship with the slow philosophy. Sometimes, slowness is related to negative connotations. Nevertheless, SlowKar whishes to be a source of life experiences to go away from the governed routine by the minute hand. In this way the photo shoot concept was based on: Where to do the ideal picnic?” Without any doubts, it would be a one of the compulsory stops. We organized a very good meat and cheese platter only for the picture…Fleshy olives, good color ham, fresh cheese… Moreover, we uncorked an AVE Premium Malbec 2009. In this way we are at 8 o`clock in the morning, the photo shoot is already finished, and neither of Iacopo, Fede Garcìa nor I had eaten breakfast correctly.

Without any doubts, what it was another photo shoot, it turned into one of the most memorable meat and cheese platter” Ramiro Marquesini ends.

Ave Team in the middle of the production

Our staff was renewed so we wanted to print the personality of each and every one of them in a unique picture. The camera of Federico García, a friend of Ave Wines from the beginnings, was in charge of taking a photo to the team´s members. This important photographer, who is specialized in wine growing, gastronomic and touristic photography, took the photos in CasaAve – a perfect stage to capture those who work every day in this venture. Don`t miss the backstage’s pictures!

Ave Wines + Global Village

“Inside Argentina’s premiere Mendoza wine region – which accounts for nearly 80 percent of that South Ameri- can nation’s 1.5 billion liters of wine each year – is a small enclave called Perdriel…”; that´s how it starts the interview made by Thérèse Margolis and published in Global Village, a detailed writing about Ave Wines. Don´t miss it!

The world´s most famous tongue tasted Mendocinian wines.

Mick Jagger, leader Singer of The Rolling Stones, tasted products of Ave Wines, Nieto Senetiner, Durigutti and Familia Zuccardi. He was on the Map Café de Cuzco (Perú).

It´s no longer crazy to think that one day Mick Jagger can go to Cuzco, get in one of its restaurants and taste four Mendocinian wines. It´s not crazy to think about it because it was exactly what happened some nights ago in that Peruvian city.

The mythical leader of The Rolling Stones spent more than 10 days going around Perú, together with his 12-years-old son, Lucas Maurice; and his current girlfriend, L`Wren Scott. Jagger, who was declared Tourist Ambassador of the Andean country, realized this trip so the little one could know part of the rainforest and the Machu Picchu ruins.
In his journey, the British singer arrived to Cuzco and had lunch in Map Café, a well-known gourmet restaurant that is located at the pre-Columbian Art Museum. In that place, which is set apart from the rest for being a glass cube and for offering regional food, the famous Stone enjoyed the three-step menu in which there were a lot of Mendocinian wines. At the welcoming, he drank a Nieto Senetiner Brut Pinot Noir champagne, while at the entrance he tasted an Ave Premium Torrontés. The main dish was served with a Durigutti Malbec and at the moment of desert, Malamado of Zuccardi was the wine of choice.

Ave wines, very close to Rock Stars

From Italy, Iacopo Di Bugno, one of Ave Wines´owners together with Mario Pardini, did not hide his happiness about the Cuzco event, the city in his which they have presence thanks to Vita importer. “We are always thrilled when we see one of our bottles around the world, but knowing that Mick Jagger tasted our Torrontes fills us with satisfaction. He has always been a myth for us.”

The musician, also journalist, revealed that lately they have been very close to others international rock stars such as, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eric Clapton. At the last concerts in Buenos Aires, Ave provided the wines which were poured at the VIP room.

Aldo Graziani: “I feel like a member of Ave´s family”

Like a friend of the house, Aldo is seated on an armchair of the so crowded InterContinental Wine Expo 2011 and he begins to talk. Everything looks rare to him, obviously! It is like interviewing a brother and he restates it: “Ave is to me like a project of a brother; the thing is that Iacopo (one of Ave´s engines) is like a brother to me. Wines represent the person who makes them, and this wine speaks for him.”

The goal of the article is to talk about the impressions that this winery generates in people and the fluid relationship that Aldo keeps with Ave in general. The best thing to do will be to start for the beginning: “When I worked in Casa Cruz, one day I saw two crazy Italians (Iacopo Di Bugno and Mario Pardini, creators of the project) who began to taste wines, and wines and wines. We begun to talk, and without knowing it we established a bond. In that way, we created a cool circle that later took me know their wines”, the media sommelier expresses.

Ave! The passion of this meaningful greeting can be seen reflected in our wines, in which the tradition of the Tuscany and the modernity of the New World merge in a perfect unison. Ave is our main project in Argentina; in it, Italian style and flavor are incorporated with those of Argentina. All our tradition is summarized in a glass of wine:” The good thing about this, it that is not nonsense” Graziani laughs. “This is true because you can see it in the glass. They are wines with a lot of personality, they are different from the rest, they are not the classics ones of Argentina.”

Now, the best part! While Aldo swings his glass around, we asked him: “What are you drinking? A fast and precise answer: “Memento, I´m a fan”. And like that he begins to talk: “You can perfectly say that it is an European wine. It has that thing from the Old World, it has an animal pinch, it´s very complex. Moreover, it´s not related with fruits or concentration. I believe it´s elegant.”

In general, how does Aldo Graziani see us? “I think all wines are placed in a top quality strip, they have volume and they are very concentrated. In Buenos Aires, wine lover people know the brand. It´s an interesting phenomenon that grew a lot in a very short time.”

Italian style viticulture

Published in The Happening:

In 2005, Iacopo Di Bugno and Mario Pardini, two daring men of the Italian Tuscan, gave shape to Ave (Italian Winemakers in the New World), the first wine-growing project of Italian philosophy and style in Mendoza, Argentina.
With 40 ha vineyards in the renowned area of Perdriel, Mendoza; the winery has the guarantee of the devoted wine-maker Alberto Antonini and a clear order: never stipulate on arrivals points.

Ave has labels such as Perdriel, a 100% Malbec that has a great intensity color which is persistent on the nose and it presents touches of plum jam, vanilla, chocolate. In the mouth, this wine presents a great volume and structure; with ripe and fleshy tannins, a balance between wood and wine.
