Slow down that you have little time

SlowKar is a company that rents vintage cars that will officially start to operate in Mendoza on February, 1st 2012. The head of this enterprise is Ramiro Marquesini, nothing more and nothing else than the President of Ave Wines. The initiative has a fleet of 5 cars Citroën 3CV restored into new with a Charleston style to travel the wine routs in Mendoza. “Starting from the passion for vintage cars we imagine a journey, enjoying the road in every stage, exactly in the opposite sense to the anxiety of arriving. Time and moment enjoyment. It is in this concept that the SlowKar genesis
is based on.”

To portrait the idea and synthesize the concept, what`s better than a picture? Together with Federico Garcìa and on the stages of Casa Ave an impeccable photo shoot was made. “We chose Ave for the photo shoot because it`s a ride for excellence. The perfection of its vineyards and the majestic setting of the mountain chain and the foothills. With the sunrise light…it was amazing”, Ave president and SlowKar manager talked about.

The name of the enterprise has a close relationship with the slow philosophy. Sometimes, slowness is related to negative connotations. Nevertheless, SlowKar whishes to be a source of life experiences to go away from the governed routine by the minute hand. In this way the photo shoot concept was based on: Where to do the ideal picnic?” Without any doubts, it would be a one of the compulsory stops. We organized a very good meat and cheese platter only for the picture…Fleshy olives, good color ham, fresh cheese… Moreover, we uncorked an AVE Premium Malbec 2009. In this way we are at 8 o`clock in the morning, the photo shoot is already finished, and neither of Iacopo, Fede Garcìa nor I had eaten breakfast correctly.

Without any doubts, what it was another photo shoot, it turned into one of the most memorable meat and cheese platter” Ramiro Marquesini ends.

Ave Team in the middle of the production

Our staff was renewed so we wanted to print the personality of each and every one of them in a unique picture. The camera of Federico García, a friend of Ave Wines from the beginnings, was in charge of taking a photo to the team´s members. This important photographer, who is specialized in wine growing, gastronomic and touristic photography, took the photos in CasaAve – a perfect stage to capture those who work every day in this venture. Don`t miss the backstage’s pictures!

Of wines and legends…

Recently, Ave Wines performed a transformation in its labels. It was decided to change the most classic representation of Mendoza, the mountain, over the Tuscany, the famous “Devil´s Bridge.” Here we have a little bit of history about the emblematic monument.

The bridge, placed at the center of Borgo, Mozzano, has a very particular structure that can be described as: “by donkey back”. With its asymmetrical arches, it represents an important model of medieval engineering.
The bridge was built by order of the Countess Matilde de Canossa (1046 – 1115) and important Noble woman of that time. Later, the bridge was restored and modified by Castruccio Castracani, Sir of Lucca, at the beginning of the XIVth century.

The official name of Magdalena´s street derives from a votive kiosk that in the XVIth century was at the left edge of the river. The bridge is also called “Devil´s Bridge” by an ancient legend. The legend says that the Squad chief of the responsible work of the bridge´s construction noticed that they would not end their job for the due day.

Despaired, he decided to ask for help to the Devil, who agreed the deal on the condition that he had to keep the first soul who passed by the bridge. The agreement was accepted. During the night, the Devil built the biggest arch and finished the bridge. The chief, regretted, planned a strategy to deceive the Devil: before some of the country person crossed over the bridge, a pig would go through the path. And like that, the Devil run away betrayed.

A bridge between Italy and Argentina

In 2005 when the first bottle of Ave came out to the market, a label was designed suited to the needs of the moment. Nevertheless the development of the brand was transporting the graphic simplifications towards another destination. The classic image is renewed in view of the need of keeping intact the philosophy of the project.

In this way, an image that would represent with pressure the wine ideals was searched. According to Iacopo Di Bugno, one of the Ave Wines engines, “the renewal implies a growth of the Ave brand and a consequent need for standing out. When people started to ask me if my wine came from the mountains, a cliché in many Argentine labels, I thought the moment of modifying the image had come. Removing the mountain and replacing it for something with much more sense, without breaking the original design”. On the other hand, Marcos Zerene, creator of these designs, finishes: “the change implies a new concept of the brand. We stop communicating the Proyecto Más (Project More) that had started as a couple of Italian guys who came to Mendoza to produce wines, to begin to communicate the idea of “Italian Winemakers in the New World.”

Iacopo expresses: “The Bridge perfectly represents the philosophy of the project, an ideal bridge between the Old (the Tuscany) and the New (Argentina) world.” The chosen bridge is called “Bridge of the Magdalena”; it is the most representative bridge of Lucca, city where Mario Pardini and Iacopo Di Bugno come from. At a conceptual level, it is very interesting, since it has been the main character of several legends: the most important gives its typical name “Devil´s Bridge” On the other hand, the graphic designer, Marcos Zerene expresses that “the particular way of the construction is alike to the former mountain that appeared on the label, which it allowed us to make changes without causing an obvious leap in the design.” Mario Pardini synthesizes the concept: “the will of renewing the Ave image through that ideal Bridge is like it would be the path of these years. From Lucca to Mendoza in a direct path. ”

The person in charge of Ailoviu, the design studio in charge of Ave, tell us that “the product has achieved an important place in the market by getting high scores in every Wine Reviews, therefore we needed to make a twist to the communication in order to show that the brand continues growing”. Iacopo expresses that “it communicates the will of not to stop and never set a boundary to the dream we are living. On the other hand, at a level of communication, I think it is always a positive thing to show oneself and not to rest on one´s laurels.”

According to Iacopo Di Bugno, “to the clients, the change was extremely positive since a design was also studied in order not to break the structure of our label, which it was kept practically the same. In words of the expert, Marcos Zerene tells us that “we achieved the impact by adding more colors to the labels. Before, the mountain was light grey, now the Bridge has the same shade of the capsule, to which in general composition it generates more color in the dressed bottle. Anyway, the change is gradual, this is the first big change at the level of design and I think a lot more of them will come to continue adapting to the market.”

On August…

We made a visit to our emblematic house. A property that has more than 100 years and that belonged to the traditional Villanueva family. It has been restored in an impeccable way; the establishment invites people to stay. Its landscapes, the Mendocinian sun and the vineyards are the perfect excuse to contemplate the beauty of this land together with a glass of our wine.

We show you a mix of photos that show Pedriel´s landscapes. Only 21 days left for spring we wanted to portray what nature will transform in a strange way. The shoots will start to come out leading to the new harvest.

AVE After Office + Poción

Take a look at the article that was published on: Poción

We celebrated in the After Office at Sofia´s

Last night we made a toast together with our closest friends in an After Office that gathered all Ave Wines collaborators. In a relaxed environment, conversation among colleagues was the most important thing of the night. The wines, of course: Ave Premium Malbec y Ave Premium Torrontés were the main characters of the stage, and on top of that the sounds of DJ Martín Guerrero made the environment more pleasant.
It´s important to highlight that Mario Pardini, one of the engines of Ave, was also present in the celebration. Besides, he went together with Ramito Marquesini, President of Ave Wines.

The future sommeliers of Latin America, came to CasaAVE

We lived a superb day full of experiences and emotions together with CAVE´s graduates.

The Sunday afternoon of March 20th was a different day for all who work in AVE. Our home was the official place of a visit that left us nothing but pleasant moments. CAVE graduates (Argentine Center of Wine and Spirits) chose our home, our place to make a closure of a week full of experiences, and we live together with them the magic and mystic that involves the wine and land of Mendoza. Thanks to the relationship and the great friendship that unite us with Maria Barrutia and Flavia Rizzuto (Owners of CAVE) it was possible to fix the visit. We were able to know and be in touch with the sommeliers that in a near future will be the best of Latin America.

The guys, expectant of what would happen, arrived in three minivans. I, personally, together with Mariano Vignoni, local winemaker of AVE, organized a visit through the vineyards paying specially attention to the grapes of Memento. Our native land is one of the most antique in the country, so it was almost analyzed as a museum.

After that, it was the moment of the wine tasting of all wines we have in the market at the moment. We decided to transform the CasaAve´s backyard for the occasion. Living up to our name, we designed a modern Roman amphitheatre with Cave´s Legionnaire sitting. The wines tasted caused, very important thing to consider, a lot of curiosity among the guests that despite the fact they were tired of a week of visits to different wineries, they asked a lot of questions and expressed their most deep impressions.

Mariano and I were the hosts. Ramiro Marquesini, the President of Ave, also joined us and took the advantage of Sunday to share some quality time with his son Lorenzo and his wife Claudia. Besides, Ximena Hoceva, the truly factotum of the Project, was superbly in charge, as usual, of all the event´s organization and logistics.

The visit day ended with some lines of memories that the guys of CAVE gave us. With a marker pen and a board placed in the amphitheatre, they wrote some words that will remain forever in my retina.
